Mankind 7"

DB-03

Their last full record as a functioning band. Another 10 song ep with a nod to DYS scratched into the matrix. A little different from slave but not that different. It's impossible to do a comprehensive breakdown of pressing info because the limited sleeves were made in unknown quantities and different ones keep turning up. Not to mention the different colored sleeves, multiple label variations, and the endless mish mash of swirled and marbled vinyl. For this post I will only cover the draw blank originals. I'll get into the deep six repress sometime in the future. Thanks to Kyle, Colin, Robert, LB, & Infestguy for info and photos.

Test Press 10 Copies

Here's some pics of tests. According to Infestguy the draw blank tests have off white/ beige labels, and the deep six tests have white labels. Below are my two tests which adhere to that reasoning but they are really close in color.

Press 500
For the longest time i thought the 500 press was the 2nd press. I was wrong. The band pressed 500 first, then used that money to do a repress of 1500. The first pressing has white labels with red print and comes in an over sized b&w sleeve. They should all have a 5.5" x 8.5" insert printed vertically with a thick black border around it.

Press 1,500

Second pressing has white labels with black print, and the same over sized sleeve. Only difference is the number on the back. The insert is now printed horizontally and there is no border.

LTD Clear Vinyl

How many were pressed? No one really knows. I've heard 50, 60, 90, 100. I think its closer to 60 because it barely ever pops up for sale. To make it even harder to obtain it was split between 3 band members and each of them made up their own covers for it. How many of each of those were made? Dave used to say limited to 5 copies in his auctions, but i've heard 3 copies of others... So what is out there waiting for you to drop a months worth of wages on? Well there is the elvis sleeve, the break the chain sleeve (in 3 colors), the live color photo sleeve, the live black and white photo sleeve, the la riot sleeve, the horse sleeve, original photo sleeve, black sleeve with logo (more?)... There are also clear copies that come in the normal sleeve. To push it over the edge a little more, there are clear copies with black labels and with red labels. Then to make your head explode there are some swirl copies out there that look like a purplish mix of the black and clear vinyl (i should note this is not an entire press. Its most likely a handful that came between the clear and black vinyl, and probably looks completely black unless held up to a bright light). And what's worse is i don't own ANY of them. Again being a cheapo comes back to bite me in the ass. If anyone out there is feeling generous and wants to GIVE me a copy i would happily accept. I will also trade or buy so get in touch if you are looking to set your copy free. The one at the bottom with 2 different sleeves comes from the all knowing Infestguy. Before he sent me those pics no one in the peanut gallery had seen either of those sleeves, so there could be a bunch of others out there. Collect em all, i dare you.

Reality Part #2 LP/CD COMP.

DS-11

Some late 90's heavyweights on this comp released by Deep Six Records. There are some on color vinyl but i don't own em. I seem to remember green, white, and black vinyl versions. Infest song is a demo version of cold inside. This is from the original 1995 session of NMS before it was revved up.

INFEST live Jan 6 1990 U-Gene's Bar Pico Rivera CA.

"So FUCKING manly!"

Thanks to Dan we now know where this is from and i found the flyer for ir. This has been floating around on the internet for a few years and figured i would add it here. I don't plan to put up mp3's of any actual releases but will add live sets when i come across them. If you have any others send them over. The recording sounds like it might be just a hair too fast. Lots of fuzzed out feeding back bass, an unreleased instrumental, some funny screams, and a cool slow mega mosh version of sick-o. Fetch the pliers is actually three or nothing. Again not a professional recording but I like the rawness of this set and have listened to it a bunch of times.

INFEST / PHC 8" FLEXI

SAH -01

Press 1000 Blue Vinyl Flexi

The infamous 90's label Slap A Ham kicks off with this wacky 8" blue vinyl live flexi. Not much to say here, 1000 pressed, all on blue, no test pressings. Nice beefy live recording from gilman street.

The only thing to note is that some time in the late 90's Chris Dodge sold some on his mailorder list. I think he called it the "closet press" because, well, he found a stack in his closet. There were around 20 copies and he numbered these over 1,000 because he couldn't remember if these were extra copies and didnt want to repeat any numbers.

Euro Bootleg - Press 1000

Europen bootleg with cartoon cover. What weirdo put this out and decided to change the cover art to this?! Really weird choice to cut up the logo into 3 2 letter blocks as well. Hand numbered on the insert, scratched out matrix.

Repress Slap A Ham 1 1/2

In 2000 this was repressed on hard vinyl with additional songs. The Infest side went from 5 to 8.

Test Press 6 Copies

No sleeve, just a plain white label test in a white dust sleeve. One was sold a few years back and had sah 1 1/2 handwritten on the dust sleeve. "Need" one of these if anyone is selling or trading.

Mailorder Blue Vinyl 200, 1300 on black.

S/T. Machismo. Where's The Unity? 7" EP

IF -001

The first ep. 10 songs of unrelenting power and aggression recorded in the spring of 1988. A BIG step up from the demo. These songs are from the same session used on the Slave LP but this 7" only has 10 of the tracks. A nice nod to DYS inscribed in the matrix.

Test Press: 4?

Got this in a message from Matt when i asked about tests: "I suppose 4 were made. We are not a band that made 10 or 20 tests. 4 guys = 4 tests." I have never seen one for sale or on a trade list. The photo below is of Matts copy currently in lockdown at his socal vault.

Press 1000 copies Black Vinyl

Sleeves and inserts were made when the band could steal copies in batches of 50-100, so the print quality and paper used can vary quite a bit. As with everything Infest there are ALWAYS variations. Some copies come with stickers, hand written dust sleeves, flyers, letters, etc. There are some sleeves out there on color paper. Years ago Erich from OTD sold a copy that had a red sleeve (photo below from owner Capn' Drawblank), and there is a copy in Tejas that has a green sleeve... And if you wanna nerd out even more, some have different things copied on the inside of the sleeve or the back of the insert (see photos near end of post) The scan below shows the B side label. If your's looks different you have a bootleg (more on that below).

LTD Color Vinyl

The colors are easy; clear and purple vinyl (slightly opaque). When i started collecting this stuff I heard there were 100 clear, and 100 purple and they came AFTER the black vinyl. Matt said "All colors of the 1st ep were done at the same time. The press amounts are foggy these days I think it was 1000 black, 100 purple, 60 clear." When Dave sold his stuff in the late 90's he claimed there were 113 copies on purple vinyl. My friend has a purple copy that is #107 so that makes sense. I have seen clear copies numbered in the high 80's. The back of the sleeve for both is different from the black vinyl. It has a draw blank logo added, a small white square where your copy will have its number, and press is changed from 1000 to 100. The clear copies i have seen come in a heavier card stock sleeve and have a live photo on the back of the insert with draw blank records in the bottom left corner. The purple copies have a thinner average photocopy paper sleeve and the live photo on the back looks a bit washed out. Insert is one sided. Lets just say 100 Clear 113 Purple give or take a few.

The clear copies have a nice thick flat edge, same with the black vinyl. The purple copies are a bit thinner and share pretty much the exact same color vinyl as the Confrontation demo 7" that was recorded in 1989 (not sure on the release date). BUT my purple copy has a letter inside from Matt dated 1/7/88 that says thanks for the order hope you like the 7". Thats before the 7" was even recorded unless he was using euro style dating. According to some collector heads who were around at the time they remember clear vinyl, but either remembered purple coming later or didn't even know it EXISTED. So basically who knows? There are about 100 of each and when they pop up these days they both go for big money. If you have one, be happy and go for a bike ride. If you want one start selling your blood.

Purple Confrontation, Purple Infest. Pretty close eh?

Random insert/ sleeve backs, color sleeves, color vinyl with schmutz in it....

BOOTLEG / ??? Pressed / Black Vinyl

As with any bootleg no one knows how many were made except the bootlegger. At least they were not trying to pass this off as an original. They made some changes to the b side label, and the back of the sleeve. The sleeves are printed on cardstock. There are 2 different backs, which may indicate they pressed it twice.
